GUWAHATI: In the 18th Town Vending Committee meeting held recently, it was decided that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) will declare markets in the city which are at least 50 years old, as heritage markets.
A list of such markets will be prepared before the next meeting of the Town Vending Committee. Markets which are at least 50 years old and which are registered under GMC will be included in the list of heritage markets.
Meanwhile, the GMC will start the process of identification and selection of eight new vending zones in the city. The GMC will soon prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the selection and relocation of street vendors. At present, there are eight designated vending zones in the city. These are Ganeshguri, wholesale gali; Barbari,VIP Road; Panbazar, opposite Meghdoot Bhavan; UzanBazar, in front of GMC office; Fancy Bazar, Phool Gali; AT Road, Co1.J. Ali Road; under Chandmari flyover and Mezzanine floor of multi-storey building of GMC at Fancy Bazar.
