GUWAHATI: With a host of VVIPs, including the Prime Minister, union ministers, ambassadors, and top industrialists, set to visit Guwahati for the Jhumoir dance programme and the Advantage Assam 2.0 business summit, the city's police force has intensified security measures to ensure smooth proceedings.
Speaking to The Sentinel, a senior police official stated, "We are fully prepared for the big event with a comprehensive security plan. Police personnel from various districts have been deployed, and senior officers are working round the clock to prevent any untoward incidents." The official further added that Union ministers, ambassadors, and industrialists are already under the security protocol of the Central government.
Additional security personnel will be stationed at the hotels where these dignitaries will be staying. Special arrangements have also been made for the Prime Minister, who is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on February 24, attend the Jhumoir dance event, stay overnight, and inaugurate the Advantage Assam 2.0 conclave the following day. To ensure security at the business summit, police have decided that no uniformed personnel will be stationed inside the venue. "We do not require policemen in uniform inside the venue as the perimeter will be secured. Only authorised individuals will be granted entry," the official confirmed.
Meanwhile, a traffic department official assured that vehicular movement within Guwahati is unlikely to be heavily disrupted. "Dignitaries will be transported from the airport to the venue via the national highway, ensuring minimal impact on city traffic," he stated. Authorities have reiterated that Assam remains a safe state, and while no specific threats are anticipated, law enforcement personnel are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the events unfold without any disturbances.
