GUWAHATI: The All Assam Computer Teacher Association (AACTA) expressed their resentment regarding the pathetic condition of the computer science teachers. The Association’s general secretary, Naba Brata Kakati, and working president, Deben Bora, said in the press meet, “There are 1326 computer science teachers in Assam, and still, after 19 years of service, they are in a pathetic condition. They started their job with Rs 1850 as remuneration, and till date they have gotten Rs 14000 with no regularised post. They ask in this regard, “What could be the reason for the directives not being implemented even after the Cabinet decision in 2017?”
Further, they said, “The education minister has only fulfilled his responsibilities by only giving assurances. Unlike other teachers, computer science teachers do not get the same pay. They have demanded that, according to the Assam Service rules, the computer science teachers should get the same pay as other teachers, with their jobs being regularised. The Assam Legislative Assembly in 2017 decided to regularise the post of these teachers, but till now there seems to be no progress.”
They further pointed out, “Since 2004, computer teachers have provided education with a minimum remuneration. In 2012, Rs 10,000 was increased by the government. Again in 2014, with the advent of technology, computer courses were introduced as an additional subject for classes IX and X. But in 2017, after their completion of the agreement, they became unemployed, making the subject in the schools useless.
“In 2018, the government opened up a programme named after Dr. Banikanta Kakati Computer Literature Programme where teachers were recruited, emphasising more on the educational qualifications. A total of 1348 teachers were recruited, and currently 1326 teachers are working. But the remuneration is still less compared to Grade IV employees.”
So the association demands that, keeping in view the current economic situation, the computer teacher posts be regularised without any condition.
