GUWAHATI: The Guwahati City District Committee of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) lodged an FIR with Dispur Police Station against Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for, as it says, his derogatory remarks against ‘the women of Assam’.
The FIR sought necessary action on ‘a grave and unpardonable matter concerning derogatory remarks made by CM of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma against the women of our state publicly in a meeting held at Bihaguri under Borsala LAC on April 28, 2025, which has been telecast on all media platforms’.
“The statement made by CM of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging that during the tenure of the last Congress government, those women of Assam lost their virginity to secure government jobs. This statement is deeply offensive and disrespectful, and baseless remarks from a person holding the highest office in the state are highly condemnable and reflect a deplorable statement of public discourse. Such a statement has caused immense hurt to the sentiments of the women community of our state and has thrown a light of complete disrespect towards the entire women community of our state, which is punishable under law,” the FIR said and requested the officer-in-charge to take immediate action, register the FIR under the relevant provision of BNS, 2023, and initiate an investigation.
