GUWAHATI: Guwahati roads have become hazardous for motorists and pedestrians due to rampant traffic infractions and poor enforcement. Despite clear provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA), weak implementation and poor public awareness have exacerbated the challenges.
The misuse of high beams, lack of road safety infrastructure, and inconsistent enforcement are major concerns. Motorists continue to use unauthorized high-intensity lights, including high beams, creating significant risks for other road users. Key routes lack clear speed limit signage and functional road markers, leaving drivers confused and pedestrians vulnerable.
Parking violations continue to create bottlenecks on main roads, with unauthorized parking becoming a norm due to the lack of designated spaces and clear guidelines. A senior DTO official told The Sentinel, “Speed limits are enforced. We are strict against those who drive above 100 km/h.
