Assam Announces Winners of State Science Award for 2024 and 2025

The Science, Technology, and Climate Change Department of Assam, has declared the winners of the State Science Award for the years 2024 and 2025.

Guwahati: The Science, Technology, and Climate Change Department of Assam, in collaboration with the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, has declared the winners of the State Science Award for the years 2024 and 2025. The awards recognize exceptional contributions to scientific research, innovation, and the dissemination of science in the state.

Lifetime Achievement in Scientific Research and Innovation for the year 2024 will be presented to Dr. Gautam Barua, Professor Emeritus at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati, and former Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in recognition of his distinguished career. For 2025, the honour will be given to Dr. Dilip Kumar Choudhury, a retired Professor from the Department of Physics at Gauhati University, Guwahati, for his longstanding contributions to science.

Dr. Tanmay Dutta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, will received the Young Scientist/Innovator Award for 2024. Continuing the legacy of nurturing young minds, the 2025 award will be bestowed upon Dr. Angshuman Borgohain, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune.

In a bid to promote scientific research and the dissemination of science across Assam, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Guwahati, will be  recognized for the year 2024. For 2025, the Assam Science Writers’ Association (ASWA) of Lakhimpur will get the award for its significant efforts in popularizing science within the state.
