GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia requested the Assam Assembly Speaker to ensure a detailed discussion on the issue of MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on March 24 in accordance with Rule 158 of the Rules and Procedures and Conduct of Business in the Assam Assembly. In a letter sent to the Speaker, Saikia said that ‘the behaviour of the MLA has saddened us, and fear has gripped many of the MLAs. It augurs well for the chair to ensure a discussion by the Privilege Committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly under Rule 158 of the Rules and Procedures and Conduct of Business in the Assam Assembly. Saikia appealed to the Speaker not to allow MLA Kurmi to take part in the proceedings of the Assembly till the Privilege Committee submits its report.
