Assam: Basistha Police Bust ATM Fraud Gang, Apprehends Burglars in Major Crackdown

Basistha Police achieve a major breakthrough by busting an ATM fraud gang in Panjabari and apprehending three veteran burglars in Latakata. Stolen items and fraudulent assets recovered.

GUWAHATI: In a major crackdown of ATM fraud, a team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) apprehended five individuals involved in duping elderly citizens to commit financial fraud. The arrests were made in Panjabari on Tuesday.

The accused have been identified as Asif Iqbal Hussain (20), Abdula Azad (20), Dewan Azlan Hariz (20), Ariful Islam (26), and Sahil Ahmed (21). As per the police the gang targeted elderly individuals, deceitfully acquiring their ATM cards and conducting fraudulent transactions.

During the operation, the police seized 17 ATM cards, ₹11,000 in cash, a Five Dirham note, three Ngultrum notes, three mobile phones, one motorcycle (registration number AS15N5640), and one car (registration number AS01FR9597). Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused.

In another significant breakthrough, Basistha Police arrested three veteran thief from the Latakata area on Tuesday. The individuals, involved in multiple theft cases, have been identified as Abhijit Talukdar alias Joy (23), Dipak Das (20), and Bikash Das (19).

Abhijit Talukdar, son of Akhindo Talukdar, hails from Basistha Chariali, while Dipak Das, son of Gopal Das, resides at Basistha Borpathar, House No. 26. Bikash Das, son of Mun Das, is also a resident of Basistha Borpathar. All three belong to the Kamrup (Metro) district and were nabbed during a coordinated operation by the police.

The police recovered stolen items during the apprehension, including two inverter batteries, two Bharat gas cylinders, and a Samsung Galaxy A40 mobile handset.
