GUWAHATI: A 54-member contingent from Cotton University brought pride to the state by securing multiple accolades at ‘Tarang Utsav’—the 38th AIU Inter-University North-East Zone Youth Festival, hosted by ICFAI University, Tripura, from January 27 to 31, 2025.
The prestigious youth festival, supported by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), saw participation from over 22 universities across the eight northeastern states. Cotton University made a significant impact through its participation in several events. The university secured top positions in various competitions, including ‘first place’ in Light Vocal Indian Solo, Classical Vocal Solo, Classical Instrumental Solo (non-percussion), Indian Group Song, and Debate; and ‘second place’ in Mimicry. The university bagged ‘third place’ in the cultural procession and quiz. The university also bagged *fourth prize* in cartooning, folk dance, Western group song, and classical instrumental solo (percussion) competitions; and ‘fifth prize’ in elocution and mime. Beyond individual accolades, Cotton University was also recognised as the ‘Overall Winner’ in the music category and literary categories. Notably, in Quiz, Cotton University, Gauhati University, and Tezpur University are the only three universities from Assam and the entire Northeastern region to qualify for the upcoming national level competition to be held in Noida in March. Cotton University was adjudged ‘Overall First Runner-up’ of the 38th AlU Inter University North East Zone Youth Festival 2025.
Expressing his delight at the university’s remarkable performance, Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka stated, “Our students have made us immensely proud with their achievements. Their success at the Zonal Youth Festival reaffirms the incredible potential of Cotton University. As the Vice-Chancellor, I am confident that our university will continue to excel in academics, research, sports, culture, and other co-curricular activities. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire contingent and commend all participating universities for their efforts.”
