Guwahati: In a move aimed at strengthening child protection mechanisms, Assam DGP Harmeet Singh directed all District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to hold quarterly meetings of the Special Juvenile Police Units (SJPU). The directive was issued during the Crime Review Meeting held at the Police Headquarters (PHQ), with an emphasis on ensuring that the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act is implemented in both letter and spirit across the state. Reaffirming the force’s commitment to the rights and safety of children, the DGP stated, “We stand committed to justice, dignity, and safety for every child.” The DGP’s instruction is expected to streamline coordination among stakeholders and ensure better rehabilitation and protection of children in conflict with the law or in need of care and protection.
