GUWAHATI: Gauhati University NSS Cell and GU Eco Club celebrated World Earth Day at Gauhati University Campus on Tuesday. NSS Programme Coordinator and volunteers planted saplings at Gauhati University Campus to mark the occasion and for combating climate change. Inaugurating the programme Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, V.C., G.U., highlighted the conservation of bio-diversity and appealed to the student community for the conservation of biodiversity hotspots around the university campus. Prof. Mahanta recited nature-inspired poems dedicated to the conservation of bio-diversity to motivate the youths. Dr Ranjan Kr. Kakati, DSW, G.U., mentioning this year’s Earth Day theme “Our power, our planet” emphasized the urgent need to triple global clean electricity generation by 2030. Dr Kakati appealed to all to plant 10 plant saplings every year to maintain the biodiversity balance.
