Guwahati: Raj Bhavan, Assam, under the leadership of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, celebrated the 50th Statehood Day of Sikkim at a solemn function held at the Raj Bhavan Conference Hall on Friday.
Extending his heartfelt greetings on the golden jubilee of Sikkim's statehood, Governor Acharya lauded the state as a shining example of sustainable development, unity, and cultural richness. "Sikkim, where nature smiles, is not just a state-it is a symbol of determination, harmony, and progress," he said.
The Governor praised Sikkim's unique identity, highlighting its pristine natural environment, its pioneering achievement as India's first fully organic farming state, and its unwavering commitment to ecological preservation. He acknowledged the state's leadership in sectors such as tourism, education, and innovation, underscoring its role as a national model of green development.
He emphasized that Sikkim's vibrant cultural mosaic, where communities including Lepchas, Bhutias, Nepalis, and others live in harmony, is one of the high points of the state. He described the state as a "living embodiment of social cohesion and inclusive growth." The Governor also reiterated the importance of the "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat" initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a vital platform to foster cultural understanding and national integration. He said that celebrating the foundation days of different states deepens the collective consciousness and strengthens the fabric of unity in diversity, stated a press release.
