GUWAHATI: The sixth round of Gunotsav 2025, to be held in three phases, will begin on January 6 and conclude on February 8.

Gunotsav is an annual statewide initiative to improve the quality of school education and ensure better learning outcomes.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu launched the Gunotsav mobile app recently, and the portal features last year's inspection reports and this year's assessments by external evaluators and head teachers to make the Gunotsav exercise more convenient, as the findings will be recorded in a digital format. Assessment of scholastics, co-scholastics, infrastructure of schools, and community involvement through SMCs and SMDCs is done in the annual Gunotsav exercise.

The primary objective of Gunotsav is bridging learning gaps identified in the exercise. However, assessment of school infrastructures will not affect the grading of the schools in Gunotsav.

Gunotsav was first organized in 2017, and five rounds of the school assessment exercise have already been completed, and this will be the sixth round of Gunotsav.

The Gunotsav 2025 evaluation exercise will cover all 35 districts in the state of Assam, covering 44,094 schools (government, provincialised, tea garden model schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalaya (NSCBAVs), Adarsha Vidyalayas, and tea garden-managed schools). The participants in the exercise include 39,65,081 students from classes I to IX.

According to the schedule, Gunotsav 2025 will be conducted in three phases, with Phase 1 covering 11 districts of Barpeta, Bajali, Sribhumi (Karimganj), Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara-Mankachar, and Udalguri. The first phase of self-evaluation will be done on January 6, 2025, while the dates for external evaluation are January 7-9, 2025.

Phase II will cover 14 districts of Baksa, Chirang, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup (Metro), Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and West Karbi Anglong. Self-evaluation will take place on January 17, 2025, and external evaluation will take place from January 20 to 22, 2025.

Phase III will be conducted in the 10 districts of Bongaigaon, Biswanath, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Cachar, Nalbari, Morigaon, Dima Hasao, and Majuli, where self-evaluation is slated for February 5, 2025, and external evaluation for February 6-8, 2025.

It was stated that 10% weightage of marks from Gunotsav will be added in the annual examination, while absentee students are to be considered in the grading of schools.
