GUWAHATI: Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal said that Guwahati Jal Board is going to provide 95,858 new tap water connections in South Central Guwahati by this month.
He said the Guwahati Jal Board has created a potential of 1,10,000 house service/metered connections in South Central under the Guwahati Water Supply Project of JICA. Out of this, 14,142 connections covering 28,492 households have been provided in 53 commissioned DMAs (district metering areas).
According to the minister, applications for approximately 95,858 new connections will be open on the @gmdwsb app from December 2024. "I urge citizens of Guwahati to submit their applications at the earliest. Applications will be collected in one go to enable the Guwahati Jal Board to avoid digging up roads multiple times, conduct one-time road excavation works for laying of the connection pipes, and thus minimise inconvenience to citizens. I appeal to all to cooperate with us for smooth tap water connections and road restoration," he said.
The minister further said that GMC ration cardholders will get a subsidy of Rs 7,000 on new household tap water connections under the Guwahati Jal Board. The subsidy also applies to consumers of GMC water supply schemes applying for new connections, he said.
