Assam has more than 12 lakh unemployed youths

GUWAHATI: There are more than 12 lakh unemployed youths in Assam. This was revealed in the House today during the ongoing Budget session in a written reply by Skill Development Employment & Entrepreneurship Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah to a question put forward by MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed.

Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah informed that as on March 6, 2023, a total of 12,32,259 unemployed youths had registered themselves in the Employment Exchange portal. Earlier in Assam, registering with the Employment Exchange was an offline process. However, the Employment Exchange registration process was digitized by the Assam Government. At present, online registration at the Employment Exchange portal is mandatory.

The minister further informed that from 2014 to 2022, a total of 1,60,122 unemployed youths were employed in various government departments while 9,01,253 unemployed youths were employed in private institutions. During the same period, the Skill Development Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Assam, recruited 91 youths in permanent jobs and 170 youths in temporary jobs.
