Guwahati: The High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2025 commenced across Assam on Saturday, with a total of 429,448 candidates appearing for the crucial state-level test. The examination, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), is being held across 944 centres, with 190,653 male and 238,795 female students registered.

Despite the extensive preparations, chaos erupted at Gasbari High School in Kamrup district on the first day of the examination due to a significant delay in distributing the English question papers. The disruption occurred as the school’s headmaster, Ashok Choudhary, arrived 28 minutes late, at 9:28 am, past the scheduled start time of the exam. The delay led to confusion and distress among students.

In response to the incident, the Director of Secondary Education took action, suspending Ashok Choudhary with immediate effect for his negligence. The suspension order was issued by Secondary Education Director Mamata Hojai following an inquiry conducted by KDC Amingaon’s Inspector of Schools, which confirmed Choudhary’s responsibility for the lapse.
