Assam: Minister Ashok Singhal Vows to End Waterlogging Woes in Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: In a significant move to address the issue of artificial flooding in Guwahati, Minister Ashok Singhal chaired a meeting under the Mission Flood Free Guwahati. The meeting, attended by top officials, focused on strategies to mitigate flooding in the city before the next monsoon season. Minister Singhal emphasized the need for immediate and long-term strategies, directing departments to finalize short-term measures within the next three to four months. These measures include the timely completion of sludge removal from all sewers, proper disposal of waste, and the construction of improved sewerage systems in critical areas.

The meeting also discussed the proposed drainage projects for Dibrugarh city, including the construction of sewers and the reconfiguration of culverts. Minister Singhal issued directives to ensure the timely execution of these plans.

In a separate meeting, Minister Singhal reviewed the progress of key projects implemented by the Irrigation Department and Housing and Urban Affairs Department. These projects included initiatives by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, GMDA, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), and Mission Amrut, stated a press release.
