GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has issued fresh directives to strengthen monitoring and record-keeping under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme, making it mandatory for schools and district authorities to maintain and verify key registers on a regular basis.

In a letter, the State Nodal Officer for PM POSHAN, instructed all District Mission Coordinators and Assistant District Nodal Officers to ensure that every school covered under the scheme properly maintains the prescribed records reflecting the actual implementation of the programme.

According to the directive, all PM POSHAN schools must regularly update four essential registers: the Accounts Maintenance Register, the Daily Performance Record Register, the Food Grains/Stock Register and the Food Tasting Register.

The order places special emphasis on the Accounts Maintenance Register, directing schools to accurately and promptly record all financial transactions. It also warns that any discrepancy, omission or incorrect entry in the records will be viewed seriously.

To strengthen oversight, Block Nodal Officers have been directed to verify compliance in all schools under their jurisdiction and submit certification to the Assistant District Nodal Officer by the second working day of every month.

Additionally, district PM POSHAN authorities have been instructed to conduct random inspections of at least 2 per cent of PM POSHAN schools every month. Following these inspections, district authorities must submit a compliance certificate to the State Nodal Office by the fifth working day of each month.

The State Nodal Office has directed all districts to ensure strict implementation of the instructions to improve transparency, accountability and the effective implementation of the PM POSHAN scheme across Assam.
