GUWAHATI: Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Ltd. is ready to distribute as many as 3.41 crore copies of textbooks for Ka Shreni to Class XII for over 52 lakh students from the second week of February 2025.
According to the corporation, it has a plan to produce 3,41,99,471 copies of different textbooks for as many as 52,91,707 students for the academic session 2025-26.
As many as 2,23,74,690 copies of textbooks of 280 titles meant for 40,21,177 students from Ka Shreni to Class VIII will go to 149 education blocks in the state. As many as 88,06,346 copies of 172 titles of textbooks for 8,02,000 students of Class IX and X will go to 33 offices of the inspectors of schools. As many as 30,18,435 textbooks of 93 titles for 4,68,530 students of classes XI and XII will go to government and provincialized schools.
All these textbooks have been published in eight mediums and 19 languages. The eight mediums are Assamese, Bengali, English, Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, Karbi, and Hmar. The 19 languages are Assamese, Bengali, English, Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, Karbi, Hmar, Nepali, Mising, Rabha, Bishnupriya Manipuri, Santhali, Sanskrit, Arabic, Parsi, Urdu, Tai, and Tiwa.
This year, the corporation has planned for over 47 lakh more textbooks than that of the last academic session, 2024-25, when 2,94,12,300 textbooks were published for 50,77,720 students. There was a shortage of textbooks last year, and the corporation had to publish textbooks afresh. At a meeting held in June 2024, it was decided to print more textbooks in the academic year 2025-26.
