GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) president Dwipen Sarma asked why the three employees who had lodged a complaint with the Chief Secretary on the constitutional validity of the new SAKP executive committee had not raised the issue of violating SAKP constitution when they had been associated with the Parishad.

Sarma said, “The three complainants – Dilip Kalita, Gobinda Chandra Kalita, and Chandan Kakati – were members of SAKP’s steering committee till the parishad’s session in North Lakhimpur. Dilip Kalita even held the post of secretary general of the SAKP. The question that arises now is: why he did not raise the question of constitutional validity of the SAKP at that time and take corrective measures. Why was Gobinda Chandra Kalita an SAKP executive member and member of its steering committee in the past if the committees were invalid?”

Sarma further said, “According to SAKP’s rules, an Assam government employee, who is not a member of any other employees’ organization, can be a member of the SAKP if he or she is a member of a local committee of the SAKP. From the local committee, such a member can be included in the district committee and then in the state committee of the SAKP. The SAKP will discuss the issue raised by the three and take appropriate measures.”
