Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched an intensive campaign ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, reaffirming its commitment to peace, development, and inclusive governance in the region. With over 3.5 million residents in focus, the party is leaving no stone unturned in its preparation under the banner of “Mission BTR.”

In a statement, state BJP said, “Once plagued by insurgency, Bodoland turned a new leaf with the signing of the Bodo Accord in 2003 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The peace process gained further momentum in 2020 with the historic BTR Peace Accord under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which brought the BTC Government, ABSU, NDFB, and other Bodo groups across the negotiation table. In the wake of this renewed peace, the BTR has seen significant development, including the establishment of medical colleges in Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Tamulpur, along with critical infrastructure projects like the 850-metre bridge over the Pagladiya River.”

As election fever builds, BJP state president Dilip Saikia has spearheaded detailed consultations across BTC constituencies to assess regional concerns and organizational readiness. Massive organizational meetings and karyakarta sammelans have been held across BTR districts, with participation from Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Cabinet Ministers, and top party functionaries. Dr. Sarma emphasized that the BJP is not fighting against individuals but advocating for the rights and welfare of all 26 indigenous communities in BTR. He announced that the final election strategy will be in place by August 15.

“Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged party workers to unite at the grassroots and deepen public service efforts, while senior ministers like Ranjeet Dass, Pijush Hazarika, Ashok Singhal, Jayantamalla Baruah, and Kaushik Rai have been entrusted with district-level responsibilities,” the party said.
