GUWAHATI: February 2025 is academically crucial. The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) will conduct the HS (Higher Secondary) final examination from February 13 to March 17 and the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) examination from February 15 to March 3.

For the smooth conduct of these two examinations and evaluations, the Department of School Education, Assam, has constituted the State Level Examination Supervision Committee (SLESC) and District Level Examination Supervision Committees (DLESCs).

The state-level examination supervision committee will supervise the conduct of examinations by the districts, especially the safety and security of question paper/OMR sheets in transit and in the police stations (PS)/post office protocols (POP), and the arrangement of examination centres and evaluation zones.

The ASSEB has pacified that district commissioners concerned may impose prohibitory orders under Sec. 163 BNSS around examination centres, besides frisking candidates before entering the examination centres. Since there will be internet connectivity in the examination centres, mobile phones with invigilators, SOs (supervising officers), grade-III, and grade-IV staff are strictly prohibited. A permanent police picket on each day of the examination is a must, besides proper police escort while bringing the question paper from PS/POP to the examination centres on each day of the examination shift-wise.

DLESCs will engage the required number of flying squads under the leadership of an executive magistrate or other officer.

The Board further specified that the officer-in-charge of the police stations/POPs must verify that at the time of receiving a sealed carton of question papers and OMR sheets, the centre-in-charge concerned must be present.

(ii) Whether all cartons of question papers are properly sealed or not.

(iii) While taking out the question paper on each day of examination, proper cartons of question papers have been taken or not. Question papers of other examinations must not be taken out.

On the role of SO, the board specified that SOs must be present while opening the cartons of question papers in examination centres on each day of examination and must ensure that the question paper is for the particular subject of the particular shift only. The SOs must ensure that unused question papers are sealed in the sorting room immediately after distribution to the invigilators.

For the HSLC examination, packets of question papers are to be opened in each room in front of candidates only.

For the Higher Secondary (HS) examination, (i) sorting of the question paper must be done under CCTV surveillance, and (ii) question papers are to be taken to the examination hall/room in sealed envelopes.

The SOs must ensure that answer scripts are either sent to the post office or stored in police stations on the same day after the completion of the examination of the particular day.
