GUWAHATI: A one-day zonal-level workshop on the "Supervision Module of the Digital General Crop Estimation Scheme (DGCES) Mobile Application" was organized for officials from the National Statistics Office (NSO), Field Operations Division (FOD), Regional Office, Guwahati and Dibrugarh, along with officials from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam, on Monday in Guwahati.

Mohandas Singh, Director of NSO, Zonal Office, Guwahati, in his welcome address, emphasized the significance of the agriculture sector in India. Singh stressed the role of the DGCES mobile application in ensuring timely data reporting and enhancing transparency in agricultural statistics.

Nitika Gupta, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, NSO, AS, HQ, Faridabad, delivered the inaugural address. She informed the participants that similar training sessions on the DGCES mobile application have been conducted in various parts of the country for officials from participating states and regional offices of NSO and FOD. Gupta highlighted the importance of the app in modernizing crop estimation processes and encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the training to clarify any doubts they had.

The "Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES)" is a nationwide initiative aimed at precisely assessing crop yields across a variety of crops. This program utilizes a meticulously crafted survey methodology rooted in the principles of crop cutting experiments. The introduction of the GCES mobile application and portal has ushered in a transformative era for recording Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) results directly from the field. With innovative features such as GPS-enabled photo capture and automated plot selection, this technological advancement significantly enhances transparency and accuracy within the system.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation has conducted nationwide sample surveys on various aspects of socio-economic, industrial, agricultural, and price statistics (like CPI, WPI), etc., since its inception in 1950. NSO conducts surveys on different subjects in a time-bound manner, termed as rounds, which caters to the data requirements of its stakeholders, stated a press release.
