GUWAHATI: The Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOA) has demanded a high-level into Monday's incident at Sonaikuchi hill forest near Jagiroad in Morgaon district, in which one person was killed and another injured when Forest Department personnel opened fire upon them when they were cutting trees.
The CCTOA also demanded Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's intervention in the matter, seeking strict against the Forest Department officer involved in the incident and payment of Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the deceased's family and Rs 20 lakh to the injured person.
While one Barshing Tisu died on the spot, his companion Rajib Singnare sustained bullet injuries in the incident.
