GUWAHATI: Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka inaugurated the Kapoor Chand Jain Memorial Library at Shri Digamber Jain Vidyalaya, Mahavir Bhawan, A.T. Road, Guwahati, on Sunday.
The library was dedicated to the memory of late Kapoor Chand Jain, a social worker, writer and community member who contributed to education, literature and social service. Jain was associated with Shri Digamber Jain Vidyalaya for more than five decades and made literary contributions in Assamese, Hindi, English and Bengali.
The inauguration was attended by Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, ward councillors Promod Swami and Saurav Jhunjhunwala, Shri Digamber Jain Panchayat president Mahavir Jain and other dignitaries, along with students and community members.
Deka paid tribute to Jain and urged students and citizens to make greater use of libraries. He highlighted the importance of reading and books in acquiring knowledge and encouraged students to remain positive, learn from failures and work with determination.
The Governor also spoke about responsible spending, saving and charity, and presented traditional saving pots to several students. He stressed the importance of Ahimsa and responsible use and conservation of natural resources, particularly water.
The library will seek to carry forward Jain’s legacy of knowledge, education, literature and social service.
