GUWAHATI: An Assamese book titled 'Tini Dashakar Patralekha', a collection of letters to the editor written and published by Mrigendra Lahkar, was inaugurated by senior journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty at a book launch event held at the Bhetapara Durga Mandir premises here on Sunday. According to a press release, the event, organized under the aegis of socio-cultural platform Pragatishil Mancha, was presided over by its president Jagannath Das. Writer Dhiren Sarma was present as the guest of honour at the event.

Inaugurating the book, Chakraborty said that the book is a 'contemporary history'.

"One can get a comprehensive knowledge of several past years by studying the book," he said. He also appreciated the author for his effort to release the book.

Dhiren Sharma, in his speech, noted that the importance of this book regarding social issues is quite high.

Author Lahkar, a retired employee of Assam Rashtrabhasha Prashar Samiti, said that the book has been prepared by collecting letters to the editor published in various Assamese newspapers, which were written by him in the last three decades.

The programme was also attended by Bhaben Bora, founder president of Pragatishil Mancha; Ganesh Chandra Goswami, president of Brihattar Bhetapara Jyestha Nagarik Unnayan Samiti; Narendra Lahkar, a retired professor of Gauhati University and elder brother of the writer.
