Devi Kamakhya Nritya Utsav-2020 on January 12 at Kamakhya Dham

GUWAHATI: The Nilachal Hill is going to reverberate with the rhythm of eight different classical dance forms of India including Satriya, as the first season of Devi Kamakhya Nritya Utsav, 2020 is going to be unveiled at Kamakhya Dham to commemorate Puhan Biya, which is supposed to be the day of wedding of Devi Kamakhya.

The Kalpavriksh and Muktimangal two of the institutions promoting performing arts, Indian classical dance and music are all set to host the Devi Kamakhya Nritya Utsav, 2020 under the cultural campaign Apne Desh Se Jude Raho.

Addressing a press meet at Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday, the festival directors of Devi Kamakhya Nritya Utsav, Sangeeta Ghosh the director of Kalpavriksh and Meernanda Barthakur the director of Muktimangal said that “the event has been designed in the line of the famous dance festivals of Khajuraho and Konark which will highlight the richness of the Indian classical dance styles.”

The festival directors said that these dances will materialize against the backdrop of the historic temple of Devi Kamakhya, which stand a testimony to the glorious past of India’s classical richness. The organizers said that “we are confident that it will be an ethereal experience and the audience will be left spell bound by the spectacular and glorious extravaganza that will unfold before their eyes.

The dance forms that will be showcased on the festival include- Mohiniattam, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, kuchipudi, Manipuri, Kathakali with some of the best exponents in the field.
