Election Commission of Assam Unveils Poll Schedule for RHAC

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission (SEC) announced the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) poll schedule on Friday. The council has 36 constituencies.

According to the poll schedule, the last date for filing of nominations is March 15 between 11 AM to 3 PM. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 17. The list of validly nominated candidates will be published on the same day after scrutiny. Candidates willing to withdraw their candidatures must do so by 3 pm on March 19, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be published.

The polling for the election will be held on April 2 from 7 pm to 3 pm. In case a re-poll is required, it will be conducted on April 3 within the same timeframe. The counting of votes will take place on April 4, starting from 8 AM and continuing until the completion of the process. The declaration of results will also be on April 4.

A total of 4,45,586 voters are eligible to participate in the election, which includes 2,16,181 male voters, 2,29,394 female voters and 11 others. There will be 630 polling stations set up for the smooth conduct of the election. Among the constituencies, 25 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, of which 4 are reserved for women. Remaining 11 constituencies are unreserved, of which 2 are reserved for women.

The maximum expenditure limit for each candidate is fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh. Regarding star campaigners, recognized national and state political parties can have a maximum of 20 star campaigners, whereas registered unrecognized parties can have a maximum of 10 star campaigners.

For voter identification, the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) will serve as the primary document. However, voters can also produce alternative documents, including Aadhar Card, MGNREGA Job Card, passbook with a photograph issued by bank/post office, health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of the Ministry of Labour, driving license, PAN card, smart card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian passport, pension document with photograph, service identity cards with photographs issued to employees of Central or State Government, PSUs and Public Limited Companies, official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs, and MLCs and Unique Disability ID (UDID) card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

Additionally, the Model Code of Conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the respective areas covered by the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council.
