GUWAHATI: Samahar Natya Gosthee will be organizing the 14th annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival in September with the participation of theatre groups from across Assam and outside. The five-day festival will begin on September 11 at the District Library Auditorium in Guwahati.
In a meeting held recently at its office, Samahar has formed the organizing committee for the theatre extravaganza, which has become a landmark festival in the hallowed memory of the father of Assamese Moving Theatre and firebrand freedom fighter, Brajanath Sharma. Among others, the Committee has a few prominent personalities as advisors, like lyricist Kirti Kamal Bhuyan, social activist Abani Sutradhar, Professor Emeritus of Gauhati University-cum-writer Dr. Khanin Chowdhury, and All India Bank Officers’ Confederation General Secretary Rupam Roy.
The theatre group’s president, Lalit Sarma, will be the president of the committee, while renowned theatre personality and filmmaker Dr. Sitanath Lahkar will function as the general secretary. As part of the procedure that is being followed every year, different groups will be invited to perform at the festival depending on the quality of the plays and the standard of performance. For that, Samahar has invited scripts of the play along with its latest performance on pen drives from willing groups or institutions. The last date for receiving the same is June 30. The details of the festival can also be found at the website www.samahar.org.in and the Facebook page www.facebook.com/samahar.natyagosthee, stated a press release.
