GUWAHATI: World Blood Donor Day was observed with great enthusiasm at the Gauhati University (GU) campus, where an awareness webinar was organised for students and NSS volunteers from across the state. The event aimed to promote the importance of voluntary blood donation and dispel common myths surrounding it.
Attending as a resource person, Dr Ranjita Sarma, Associate Professor at Dr B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, emphasised the critical role of regular blood donation in saving lives and highlighted the scientific facts related to blood donation. She also interacted with the participants and clarified several misconceptions about the process.
The webinar was inaugurated by Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, DSW & Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, and Gauhati University. In his opening remarks, Dr Kakati spoke about the life-saving value of blood donation and encouraged the youth to come forward and donate regularly and also focused on this year’s theme, “Give blood, give hope, together we save life.” Dr Rituparna Borah, Programme Officer of the GU NSS Unit, welcomed the participants and urged everyone to support the cause of continuous and voluntary blood donation. Approximately 100 NSS programme officers, volunteers and students from different parts of the country took part in the webinar.
