Guwahati: In a move to bolster its ongoing cleanliness drive, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has imposed a fine of Rs 1,500 on an unauthorized fruit vendor for littering near the Bhangagarh Flyover on GS Road under Division-IV.
According to officials, the vendor was found dumping organic and plastic waste on the roadside pavement, in violation of municipal waste disposal norms. The action created an unsanitary environment in a high-footfall area, prompting swift action from the civic body.
The GMC stated that the penalty is part of a broader effort to enforce solid waste management rules and ensure public hygiene. Officials further warned that regular inspections would continue across all city divisions to curb such practices.
The Corporation has urged both citizens and street vendors to adopt responsible waste disposal practices. “Public cooperation is vital in keeping Guwahati clean and livable for all,” a GMC spokesperson said.
