GUWAHATI: The Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Higher Secondary 1998–2000 batch of Cotton College commenced with much emotion, enthusiasm, and nostalgia on Saturday at Cotton University’s Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha Auditorium.
Marking 25 years since they graduated from one of the most prestigious institutions in the Northeast, the event brought together over 150 former students and nearly 100 faculty members in a heartfelt reunion that paid tribute to the bond shared between teachers and students.
The event was graced by Cotton University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka as the chief guest. Prof. Deka formally inaugurated the celebrations and released a special souvenir titled ’??, Cotton Chronicles, published by the batch to commemorate the journey of the students and their alma mater.
In his address, he praised the batch for their initiative and spirit of togetherness. “It’s rare to witness such strong bonds that remain intact even after 25 years. This celebration is truly inspiring,” he said, extending his best wishes to all attendees in their future endeavours.
Adding further significance to the occasion, seven distinguished former teachers of Cotton College were honoured as guests of honour. These included Madhavdev University Vice Chancellor Dr Arupjyoti Choudhury; former Cotton College Principals Dr Nirada Devi, Dr Jamuna Sarma Choudhury, Dr Sudarsan Barua, Dr Prasanta Kumar Bordoloi, and Dr Sitanath Lahkar; as well as Cotton College Alumni Association President Dr Satyendra Kr Choudhury.
The teachers expressed heartfelt appreciation for the well-organised reunion, noting that no other batch had previously undertaken such an effort to bring back and honour all the teachers from their academic period. “It truly feels like a family reunion,” one of them said.
A special highlight of the event was the release of the batch anthem titled Amar aei Cotton, a tribute song to their beloved institution, launched by Dr Choudhury of the Alumni Association. The anthem added an emotional note to the celebration, stirring memories and bonding moments among attendees.
The celebrations will continue on Sunday with a day-long programme at the Assam Agricultural University Guest House, Khanapara. The second day will feature cultural performances, recreational games, and interactive sessions among batchmates — promising to be a joyous and memorable conclusion to the Silver Jubilee festivities.
