GUWAHATI: Personnel of the ISBT outpost recovered a huge quantity of Codeine Cough Syrup containing psychotropic substances from a Bharat Benz Bus (AR 02A 3487) from Siliguri at ISBT here today.
During their search, the police found 50 cartons. The driver claimed the cartons contained ghee. However, a search revealed that the content of the cartons was 3,775 bottles of Codeine Cough Syrup. The police arrested the drivers of the bus – Golap Hussain of Barpeta and Jyotish Basumatary of Gossaigaon, besides handyman Hari Prasad Chetry of Krishnai, Goalpara. An auto van (AS01JC 8026) that arrived at the ISBT one hour later to receive the consignment is also under the police net. The police arrested the driver.
