GUWAHATI: A delegation from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), led by Party Legislature Leader Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Qasimi, met with the Assam Director General of Police (Law and Order) on Monday to submit a memorandum expressing deep concern over the alleged harassment of Indian Muslims under the pretext of identifying illegal foreigners in Upper Assam.
The delegation comprised several AIUDF MLAs and central office-bearers. In the memorandum, the party condemned what it described as inhumane treatment and targeted abuse of Muslims from Lower Assam who are working in districts such as Sivasagar and Jorhat, under the so-called “Miya eviction campaign.”
The AIUDF alleged that certain groups and organizations have been harassing Muslims involved in various trades and occupations in these districts, while the local administration has remained unresponsive.
Describing the situation as both sensitive and urgent, the party called for immediate intervention to uphold law and order in Upper Assam and to put an end to discriminatory practices.
