GUWAHATI: The cultural and literary landscape of Assam witnessed a vibrant milestone with the inauguration of the All Women’s Book Club on April 30, 2025. The event was graced by eminent literary and social personalities who added grandeur and meaning to this unique initiative focused on empowering women through the world of books.

Sahitya Akademi winner, celebrated author and journalist Anuradha Sarma Pujari, graced the occasion as the chief guest, sharing inspiring reflections on the role of literature in shaping women’s voices, identities, and aspirations.

The event also featured Pramod Kalita, Secretary, Assam Publication Board, and Rashmi Narzary, a Sahitya Akademi award-winning author, as guests of honour. Both speakers highlighted the inclusive and transformative power of reading, especially for women across different walks of life.

All Women’s Book Club president Mita Nath Bora aspires to build a vibrant reading culture among women, offering a safe and encouraging space for literary discussions, exchange of ideas, and creative expression. The initiative comes at a time when Assam has declared 2025 as the “Year of Books”, further reinforcing the significance of such grassroots literary movements. With library facilities, monthly meets, guest interactions, and outreach programmes, the club aims to nurture a reading culture among women — one that transcends age, profession, and language, a press release said.
