GUWAHATI: The 29th issue of RGBIAN, the annual college magazine of R.G. Baruah College, was released today at the college campus by famous writer and Sahitya Akademi Award Winner Manoj Kumar Goswami in the presence of guest Dr. Bibhash Choudhury, famous literary critic, writer and professor of Department of English, Gauhati University, and others.
Chief advisors of the magazine, Principal Dr. Pranjit Kumar Nath, Vice Principal Dr. Dipak Pathak, and others were present at the function.
Goswami spoke on the importance of literature, work and studies that can be undertaken by avoiding present-day distractions of social media and artificial intelligence. He spoke on the need to upskill students in an AI-driven world so that they do not lag in career and job opportunities. In a consumer-driven society, especially in India where GDP growth is weak due to lack of manufacturing capacity, it is a challenge to take the nation towards development, but the young generation has an important role to play there.
Dr Bibhash Choudhury not only elaborated Gon oswami's remarks on AI but also spoke on different techniques of reading literature. He insisted on the need for Assamese readers to read literature from various Indian states and other countries to be able to relate the similarities of Assamese literature with other literatures. He also emphasized the need for literary criticism, and translation in Assamese literature by readers and writers so that an active readership comes into being.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Pranjit Kumar Nath, Principal, R.G. Baruah College. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Joyanta Deka.
