GUWAHATI: Yet another incident of civic negligence shook the city on Sunday as a water supply pipe belonging to the Jal Board burst in Arya Nagar around 4 PM, leaving two bikers injured and raising fresh concerns about the condition of Guwahati’s underground infrastructure. Eyewitnesses reported a sudden explosion as water gushed out from beneath the road with high pressure, catching commuters off guard. The two-wheeler riders, who were passing by at the time, lost control due to the force of the water and sustained injuries. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. This is not the first time the city has witnessed such a mishap. Frequent pipe bursts and related accidents have become a recurring issue in several areas, sparking anger among residents and commuters alike. Locals allege that the Jal Board has failed to maintain and monitor the water pipeline network despite repeated complaints.
“Every time something like this happens, the Jal Board promises an inquiry, but nothing ever changes on the ground,” said a shopkeeper in Arya Nagar.
The incident has once again put a spotlight on the urgent need for infrastructure audits and timely maintenance. With lives being put at risk, the public is now demanding greater accountability and immediate action from the Jal Board. Will this latest accident finally push the authorities to take the issue seriously? Or will it be just another entry in a growing list of civic failures?
