Guwahati: Anti-poaching task force reconstituted in city

In a decisive move to curb rhino poaching and safeguard other wildlife species, the Government of Assam has reconstituted the Anti-Poaching Task Force with immediate effect.

Guwahati: In a decisive move to curb rhino poaching and safeguard other wildlife species, the Government of Assam has reconstituted the Anti-Poaching Task Force with immediate effect. The order, issued by the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, partially modifies an earlier notification dated December 20, 2024. The newly notified task force will be chaired by the Director General of Police, Assam, with Field director, Kaziranga national park and Tiger reserve (NP&TR) serving as member secretary, the PCCF (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden serving as Member. The panel includes top police officials, senior forest officers, and retired IPS officer Dr. Keshav Kumar, who will serve as Advisor (Forensics) to the government.

Other members are senior police officers, including Special Addl. DGP (Special Branch), IGP (STF), and Superintendents of Police from Golaghat, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Morigaon, Baska, Chirang, Barpeta, and Majuli, field Directors of Manas National Parks & Tiger Reserves, divisional Forest Officers from key wildlife divisions across the state, and commandants of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Assam Forest Protection Forces (AFPF).
