GUWAHATI: The dacoit Ranesh Daimary, alias Raju, who had snatched the chain of a lady at Jalukbari on April 9, sustained bullet injuries and died in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital during treatment today.
On the contrary, Daimary's wife pointed her accusing finger at the police, stating that her husband had been attending a marriage ceremony at Nalbari on April 29, and he was not in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, DCP (East) Mrinal Deka told the media, "After a thorough search, Dispur police found Ranesh Daimary, alias Raju, at Nalbari along with Mohidul Haque, alias Under, yesterday. Daimary came out of jail on April 10, 2025. Earlier, he sustained bullet injuries in an encounter with Guwahati Police on December 3, 2024. He was involved in a snatching case at Barbari on April 27. He was involved in around five incidents in Guwahati between April 17 and April 29. In yesterday's incident, he dropped his pistol while fleeing. During interrogation, Daimary confessed before the police that he had kept another pistol somewhere at Chachal. While searching for the pistol, all of a sudden, he bent down, picked up the pistol and made an attempt to fire at the police. The police soon fired at him."
The police have information regarding Daimary's involvement in as many as 30 incidents in Guwahati.
