GUWAHATI: Thousands of workers from various sectors under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Assam staged a protest, demanding a hike in minimum wages. The workers gathered at the Chachal dharna place in Guwahati. The protesters demanded that the government should announce the revised minimum wage immediately. They said that if the government failed to do so by tonight, they would march to Dispur.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner met with the protesters and assured them that the matter was under consideration of government. He also stated that senior officials from the Labour Department would communicate with the government and inform the protesters about the decision soon.
The protesters, however, were unsatisfied with the assurance and continued their demonstration.
