Guwahati: Now in custody, Dr. Mridupaban Nath's corrupt practices made the CM's Vigilance Cell raise their brows.
Dr. Nath's arrest follows serious allegations, including amassing disproportionate assets. However, the most damning accusation against him is his involvement in fabricating fraudulent post-mortem reports, through which he allegedly earned money. According to sources, Nath forged a post-mortem report of his deceased brother to facilitate an insurance claim.
The investigation against him intensified when the CM's Vigilance Cell raided his residence in 2024, uncovering a cache of fake post-mortem reports along with various other incriminating items. Additionally, three criminal cases were registered against him at Bhangagarh police station under case numbers 37/2017, 68/2018, and 41/2018. These cases are linked to forging his father-in-law's signature, duping individuals under the pretext of providing jobs, and manipulating post-mortem reports.
Further complicating the case, financial irregularities surfaced when investigators discovered that a sum of approximately Rs 7 crore had been deposited into Dr. Nath's bank account in 2019. As of now, Dr. Nath has been unable to explain the source of these funds.
