Guwahati: Today marked yet another milestone as Guwahati hosted the 2nd edition of the Prerana IASOWA Guwahati Marathon, which is one-of-a-kind AIMS-certified full marathon, attracting participants from diverse age groups and abilities. The event featured multiple categories to cater to various fitness levels: a full marathon, half marathon, 10 km run, and a 5 km joy run/walk.

Highlights:

o Diverse Participation: Runners aged from 4 to over 70, including visibility-challenged, showcased the inclusive spirit of the marathon.

o Flag-off Ceremonies: The full marathon commenced precisely at 5:00 PM, flagged off by Assam's first Ironman, Rajneesh Goswami. The half marathon was inaugurated by the Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Nandita Garlosa. The 10 km run saw the participation of the Chief Secretary of Assam, Dr. Ravi Kota IAS, while the 5 km joy run/walk was flagged off by the Director General of Police, Assam, Harmeet Singh IPS.

o Impeccable Organisation: Each race category started punctually, reflecting the organisers' commitment to timeliness. Comprehensive arrangements ensured route safety, ample hydration points, en route toilets, medical teams, volunteer support, and recovery food, addressing all runner concerns.

o Prize money of Rs 7.95 lakh plus additional gift vouchers

o 3000 participants

The 2nd edition of the Prerana IASOWA Guwahati Marathon has earned recognition as a marathon worth running because, with its inclusivity, flawless execution, and enthusiastic participation, the marathon distinguished itself. It was more than just a race-it was an experience to remember.

The marathon is for everyone as it caters to diverse fitness levels. Runners had the option to choose from:

o      Full Marathon (42.195 km) - A challenge for seasoned athletes and marathon veterans.

o Half Marathon (21.097 km) - Ideal for runners looking to test their endurance.

o 10-km run-A perfect blend of speed and stamina, appealing to fitness enthusiasts.

o 5-km Joy Run/Walk-Encouraging beginners, families, and individuals of all ages to experience the thrill of participation.

Key highlights included:

o Well-marked routes, hydration points at regular intervals, and trained volunteers ensured a smooth and safe experience for all.

o Ambulances and first-aid stations were strategically placed to attend to any health concerns.

o The marathon incorporated sustainable practices such as biodegradable cups, minimal plastic use, and designated waste disposal stations.

o Pre-run warm-up exercises and post-run recovery food

o Physiotherapy and medical tent

Celebration of fitness and community spirit:

Beyond just being a sporting event, the marathon fostered a sense of unity among participants and spectators alike. One particularly moving moment saw a visually impaired runner being guided by a guide, symbolising the true spirit of camaraderie and determination that defined the event. Families and running groups joined to run along or cheer others. The event also featured inspiring stories of resilience, with many participants overcoming personal challenges to complete their chosen distance.
