Guwahati: In a swift response to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s directive, the Guwahati Police and Transport Department launched a coordinated crackdown on illegally operating dumpers late last night. The move comes in light of rising public concern and a spate of fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles in the city.
The late-night operation was personally supervised by top officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mrinal Deka, and Transport Officer Himanshu Das. The drive targeted dumpers plying without valid documents and operating in violation of traffic norms.
Several dumpers were seized or penalized on the spot after being found without proper paperwork. Officials stressed that the operation aimed to curb the reckless movement of these heavy vehicles, especially during nighttime hours, which poses a serious threat to commuters. Authorities have promised that such drives will be conducted regularly to ensure road safety and strict enforcement of traffic regulations in Guwahati.
