SONAPUR: The people of Digaru staged a noisy protest against the Indian Air Force's notice to halt all construction activities within a 900-metre radius from the boundary of the Digaru Air Force station. Nearly 10,000 people from various community members and organisations declared that they would not give up their land under any circumstances. They warned that no construction activity in Sonapur would be stopped and threatened that if needed, they would force the Digaru Air Force station to be relocated.

The residents expressed their dismay at the notice issued by the Air Force, fearing severe consequences for about 10,000 indigenous people from four village panchayats who have been living in the area for 40 to 50 years. Some families have been residing in the region for over 70 to 100 years.

The notice will affect several villages, including Sonapur, Baruabari, Urul, Erabari, Barkhat, Milanpur, Jyotinagar, Rupnagar, Shantinagar, Kushal Nagar, Barghoria, Mohmara, Baligate, Damora Pathar, Boliastan, Moirakuchi, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Botakuchi, Digaru, Chenimur, and Bajram.

Moreover, locals reported that the busy road passing through the New Sonapur Market to the Air Force residential area has been forcibly barricaded, causing severe inconvenience. People questioned why they have to suffer just because of a few officials' decisions. They pointed out that the Air Force has not faced any obstruction from the locals in the past 50 years.
