Guwahati: Institution of Engineers (India) to hold World Water Day today

The Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India), in association with Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA), is organising World Water Day on March 22.

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India), in association with Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA), is organising World Water Day on March 22 at its premises at Panbazar.

World Water Day, celebrated on March 22 every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of fresh water. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. This year the theme of World Water Day 2025 is “Glacier Preservation.”

The inaugural session of the Day to be presided over by Er. Mahesh Barkataki, chairman of the Centre, will start at 10 am with the welcome address to be delivered by Er. Monojit Mishra, secretary of the centre. The session will be graced by Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita (Retd.) as chief guest, while Prof. Sudip Mitra, Professor and Head, School of Agro and Rural Technology, IIT, Guwahati, will deliver a speech on the theme as keynote speaker. In the inaugural session, to commemorate the event, a souvenir-cum-technical volume along with the quarterly newsletter of the Centre will be released by the chief guest.

The inaugural session will be followed by a technical session to be started from noon. In the technical session, five selected technical papers based on the focal theme and sub-theme will be presented by the respective authors of the papers. The authors of technical papers are faculty members and research scholars of universities, technocrats, scientists, hydro consultants, etc.

The organiser of the event requests corporate members of the centre, engineers of various government departments, scientists, faculty members and students of technical institutions and well-wishers to participate in all the programmes of the event to make it a success, a press release said.
