Guwahati: Despite continuous awareness campaigns and strict enforcement by the authorities, some residents continue to flout civic regulations, causing inconvenience to the public. In yet another instance of irresponsible waste disposal, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has taken action against a resident for dumping construction debris on a public road, obstructing movement and creating safety hazards.
On Monday, GMC officials imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on a resident of MT Road for encroaching on public space by leaving construction materials unattended on the roadside. The civic body has been actively conducting inspections to curb such illegal dumping, which disrupts traffic flow and poses risks to pedestrians and motorists.
A GMC official, while issuing a strict warning, stated, “Despite repeated appeals and penalties, some individuals continue to ignore the rules. If you cause inconvenience to others by dumping construction waste on the road, be prepared to face consequences.”
The municipal authorities have been running extensive drives to ensure proper waste disposal and maintain cleanliness across the city. However, non-compliance by certain individuals remains a persistent challenge. Officials have urged residents to follow waste management guidelines to avoid penalties and contribute to a cleaner, more organized city.
