Guwahati Jal Board, DAY-NULM signed MoU for appointing 'Jal Sakhis'

GUWAHATI: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday between Guwahati Jal Board and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) at a function held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) for appointing 'Jal Sakhis' from self-help groups for work such as meter reading, bill collection, etc.

The MoU was signed between Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) Pallav Gopal Jha, who is also the Managing Director of Guwahati Jal Board, and the Managing Director of DAY-NULM, Panchami Chaudhary.

As per the MoU, the Jal Board will provide appropriate honorariums to these Jal Sakhis for providing services to the people. This measure has been taken to make women more work-oriented and self-reliant. A total of 27 women have been recruited as Jal Sakhis.
