Guwahati: On the auspicious occasion of Vishva Samskrita Divasah (World Sanskrit Day), Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) celebrated the richness of the Sanskrit language with a vibrant and intellectually stimulating programme. Organized by the Discipline of Sanskrit under the Padmanath Gohain Barua School of Humanities (PGBSH), the hybrid-mode event brought together eminent scholars, faculty members, students, and Sanskrit enthusiasts from across the globe.
Coinciding with Shravana Purnima and Raksha Bandhan, the 2025 celebration highlighted the deep cultural, spiritual, and intellectual connections that Sanskrit shares with India’s heritage. The event commenced with a melodious Mangalacharanam by Dr. Indrani Kalita, Assistant Professor, Sanskrit, who also served as the programme’s anchor, setting a dignified and devotional tone throughout the proceedings. Prof. Das lauded Sanskrit as a language of philosophical depth and scientific precision, urging its integration into contemporary research and pedagogy.
The keynote address by Prof. Jagadish Sarma explored the theme Liberality in Sanskrit Literature, where he delved into the four Purusharthas — Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha — emphasising Tyaga (renunciation) as the essence of a purposeful life. Drawing from texts like the Mahabharata and the Isopanishad, he encouraged listeners to embody the ethical and spiritual ideals found in Sanskrit traditions.
