GUWAHATI: A mysterious firing incident late at night in Guwahati’s Narengi Tiniali has left residents in shock and raised serious concerns about law and order in the city.
The gunfire was reported to have originated from inside a four-wheeler, which had traveled from Six Mile before opening fire towards the Nunmati Police.
In the attack, Sub-Inspector Abdul Momin was injured by the gunshots. The police acted quickly, being able to apprehend the vehicle and arrest one of the suspects, Routa's Chitran Basumatary, who is said to be involved in smuggling. Another accomplice, however, escaped, fleeing amidst the chaos and evading arrest.
During the search of the impounded vehicle, police officers found a massive amount of marijuana and other substances, which could suggest a connection to an illicit narcotics ring active in the area.
The authorities have now opened a thorough probe to hunt down the absconding suspect and determine the motive for the attack.
With the recent increase in drug offenses and criminal activities, the police have stepped up their efforts to bring illegal networks to the hammer.
