GUWAHATI: Panic has gripped the Maligaon area of Guwahati after a 12-year-old boy was severely injured in a leopard attack. The incident took place at the Madhab Dev Nagar locality of Maligaon East, raising concerns among local residents about wildlife encounters in urban settings.
The victim, Faruk Ali, suffered serious injuries in the attack, prompting him for urgent medical attention. Local security has been notified of the incident, and measures are being taken to secure the residents in the area.
After the incident, locals have expressed their grievances and are taking preventive measures by walking with sticks to guard themselves. The attack has generated awareness on the presence of wildlife in the region, and debate has been ignited on enhancing steps to avoid such attacks.
A similar tragic incident was reported last night in Budhe Chapori under the Numaligarh Forest Beat Office in Bokakhat, in which a man was killed in a tiger attack. The victim has been identified as Gopinath Mili, a resident of Selek Village under Dergaon Police Station.
As per reports, like any other day, Gopinath Mili had gone to Budhe Chapori to herd his cattle when a massive tiger suddenly attacked him. Though he screamed in despair for help, the tiger pulled him far into the forest.
On hearing his cries, the locals ran to the location, only to discover blood stains, pieces of his clothes, sandals and drag marks showing that the tiger had dragged him into the thick forest.
Upon receiving the information, a 15-member team of forest officials, led by the Golaghat Range Officer and the Numaligarh Forest Beat Officer, arrived at the scene at night. They later recovered Mili’s body from an open area in the dense forest.
